"The Cultural Landscape of Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park" was presented by Park Ranger Newton Rose, the featured speaker at our February meeting at the Godnick Center. Ranger Rose talked about the creation and history of the park in honor of the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Another side to the story was added by long-time volunteer Toni Hover. Toni recounted her interest in the life of Augusta, the artist's faithful wife and companion despite years of tumult. She was instrumental in preserving her husband's artistic legacy as a leader of the Cornish Art Colony following his passing in 1907. Her work enabled the preservation of the New Hampshire estate, today a National Historic Park.

The hospitality committee outdid themselves with a delicious Valentine display. Upcoming projects include a workshop at the Kervick Residence for Spring bouquets. The RGC Scholarship program has been extended to include students at the Stafford Tech Forest Program, as they are part of the Rutland High School system. Students who have received scholarships may join us as guests at our annual meeting in May. The next Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 17, at the Hull Maynard Hersey Agency. We encourage members to consider donating a variety of plants, including perennials, small house plants, and herbs. "Digs" can be scheduled at gardens of members or friends.
